I was at a dealer this weekend and was going to buy some Optimax DFI Oil for the upcoming season.  He tried to sell me Premium Plus Oil, he said it was the same oil as the Optimax oil I have run from day one in my 225 Optimax.  They where only going to carry Premium Plus oil.  Has anyone else heard this?  I know the manual says it is ok to run Premium Plus oil.  I would prefer to not switch oils, but if they are the same why pay extra for the Optimax DFI oil?

 Thanks,

 Mike

I have seen this debated back and forth on various sites, and the general consenses (sp?) is that you should stick with OPTI oil, 15,000.00 for and an engine and $$? extra for Opti oil. I konw Terroreyes tests oil for, see if chimes in here.

I know that I use the Opti oil  in my 115 Optimax and that's what I'm stick with. I know that there other oils, I've been seen a lot about Royal Purple on boattest.com they say it really good. My buddy don't use the Opti oil but I'm drawing a blank on the name.

Here is an answer straight from my contact at Mercury:

OptiMax oil is not the same as Premium Plus oil. Opti oil has more cleaners and dispersants. However, Opti or Premium Plus can be used in OptiMax engines.
