Open water walleyes are notorious for being attracted to gaudy spinners in large sizes. One common mistake when fishing for these fish with spinners is to use hooks that are too small. Proper rigging for open water walleyes will include larger than normal hooks for constructing a great spinner rigs. It is common to use a larger hook like a Mustad Big Red in size 1 or 2 for the lead hook followed by a treble hook in size 6 or 4 as a trailer. Both Triple Grips and traditional UltraPoint trebles have found favor with open water anglers. Simply choose one that fits your style.
